12-year-old Miranda Sipps from Texas was admitted to hospital with respiratory distress - a severe form of respiratory failure. Tragically, the schoolgirl died and police arrested her parents.
The girl's mother Denise Balbaneda and her stepfather Gerald Gonzalez are accused of negligence. They wasted four days waiting before seeking medical attention.
Police say Miranda suffered ‘mysterious and life-threatening injuries’ the day before, the nature of which law enforcement officials are not saying. However, based on police's words that the parents didn't want to draw attention to them, domestic violence is likely involved.
All the while, the mother and stepfather were giving the girl vitamins and guzzling down smoothies. However, the schoolgirl was unconscious most of the time.
The charges against Balbaneda and Gonzalez could receive the maximum penalty of life in prison.
