The EU introduces the EES system, replacing manual passport stamping with automated entry/exit registration for third-country nationals, improving border security and control
The European Union has taken a significant step forward in modernizing border control with the launch of its new Entry/Exit System (EES).
Dubbed "Smart Borders," this system will replace the traditional method of manually stamping the passports of third-country nationals entering or exiting EU member states.

The EES is designed to enhance border security by providing more accurate and efficient control over the movement of travelers. Under the new system, travelers will use self-service terminals at border crossings to scan their passports or other travel documents.
These terminals will automatically record the individual's name, biometric data, as well as the date and place of entry and exit.
By digitizing these processes, the EES will not only speed up border crossings but also improve the accuracy of data collection.
This will enable EU authorities to better track the movements of non-EU nationals, reducing the risk of overstays and enhancing overall security within the Schengen Area.
This initiative is part of the EU's broader strategy to strengthen its external borders and adapt to the challenges of modern travel and migration.
The EES is expected to be fully operational in the coming years, marking a significant shift in how the EU manages and secures its borders.
