Indonesia tightens security amidst monkeypox sickness
Indonesia tightens health screenings for incoming foreigners to prevent the spread of monkeypox (Mpox) as global concerns rise. Learn about the new measures and what they mean for international travelers.
Indonesia's Ministry of Health has implemented stricter health screening procedures for all incoming foreigners in response to the rising global concern over the spread of the monkeypox virus (Mpox).
The new measures include heightened vigilance at entry points across the country and the introduction of a detailed questionnaire for foreign nationals, including state guests. This questionnaire gathers essential data, such as medical history and recent travel information, to better prepare for potential cases.

This tightening of inspections is part of a broader effort to prevent the introduction of Mpox, particularly the more dangerous clade 1b, which has shown a higher fatality rate and is primarily spread through sexual contact.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recently declared a global health emergency for Mpox, further motivating Indonesia's preventive actions. Despite these measures, the overall trend of Mpox cases in Indonesia has decreased compared to the previous year.
