Terrorists have demanded N60 million and five motorbikes as ransom to release the body of the slain Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District, Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, who was brutally killed after pleading for government intervention.
In a dire situation, the terrorists responsible for the brutal murder of Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, the Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District in Sokoto State, have made a shocking demand.
They are insisting on a ransom of N60 million and five motorcycles in exchange for the release of the traditional ruler's body, allowing his family to conduct a proper Islamic burial.
The tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, when Alhaji Bawa was abducted, tortured, and subsequently killed by the terrorists.
Before his death, a distressing video surfaced showing Alhaji Bawa pleading for his life and urging the government to intervene.
The video, widely circulated online, captured the traditional ruler speaking in Hausa as he recounted his harrowing experience of being kidnapped alongside his son in July, while they were traveling from Sokoto to Sabon Birni, his hometown.
Initially, the kidnappers demanded an astronomical ransom of N1 billion for their release. The video further revealed the presence of a gunman dictating what the victims should say, highlighting the level of coercion and duress they were under.
Despite Alhaji Bawa's desperate appeal for rescue, the government’s intervention came too late. He was killed by the terrorists, and now the family is faced with the agonizing possibility of being unable to perform a proper burial if they fail to meet the terrorists' demands.
A family source, who spoke on Wednesday evening, confirmed the ongoing ransom demands.
"They said before they can release his corpse, we must give them N60 million and five motorcycles," the source said, reflecting the dire situation the family is currently facing.
