Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich urges the U.S. government to crack down on Elon Musk's social network X, calling it a platform for spreading lies and violence
Former U.S. Labor Secretary Robert Reich has made a strong call for government intervention against Elon Musk's social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).
Reich, who served during Bill Clinton's presidency, expressed deep concerns over the increasing spread of misinformation and incitement to violence on the platform. He suggested that the U.S. government should take decisive action to curb these dangerous trends.
Reich compared the situation to the arrest of Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, highlighting the need for international regulators to step in.
He urged the U.S. government to demand that Musk remove harmful content from X, warning that failure to do so should result in legal action by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
In addition to his concerns about X, Reich also questioned the U.S. government's reliance on SpaceX, another of Musk's ventures. He argued that someone who shows disregard for public safety should not be trusted with critical infrastructure.
Reich called for the termination of federal contracts with SpaceX if Musk does not comply with demands to protect public interest.
This bold statement has sparked discussions on the role of tech giants in shaping public discourse and the responsibility they hold in preventing the spread of harmful content.
