Meta has agreed to a settlement with Texas, which accused it of illegally using facial recognition technology to collect biometric data from millions of users.

According to the deal, Meta will pay the state $1.4 billion.
It's worth noting that this is not the first such lawsuit Meta has faced. In 2020, for example, the company agreed to pay $650 million to settle a class action lawsuit in which Illinois users accused it of violating the privacy of biometric data.
In both cases, Meta denied wrongdoing.
